What is the C Card Scheme?

The C Card (condom card) Scheme is a free condom distribution scheme, providing quick, easy and confidential access to condoms for 13 – 18 year olds.

So how do I get one?

You need to be registered for a C Card by a nurse or other trained professional.

What does this involve and how long will it take?

Registration takes about 15 minutes. The nurse or professional will talk to you about all aspects of condom use including: R U Ready, peer pressure, self esteem and confidence building, as well as why condoms should be used, when and how they should be used and what to do if it all goes wrong!

Will anyone find out I have a card?

As with any consultation, each young person is seen confidentially and assessed on an individual basis. However, if we are worried about you, or think you are not ready to have a C Card, we have the right to delay giving you one until we think you are ready. If we are worried we also have a duty to talk to other professionals in your best interest to ensure your safety.

Where can I get a C Card?

Once you have been registered for your card, you will be able to obtain condoms at any registration or distribution point where the C Card sticker is displayed.

How often can I get condoms?

• If you are under 16 you can get condoms six times
• If you are 16 or over you can get condoms 10 times

After this you need to re-register. This means the professionals can ensure you still know what you’re doing, especially if things go wrong.

So where can I get condoms from?

There will be registration and distribution sites:

• Registration sites: you will see trained professionals and be able to get condoms as well as having the opportunity to discuss any sexual health related problems you may have.
• Distribution sites: By simply showing your card you will be able to collect condoms. We aim to have distribution sites throughout Blackpool (see list below).
